If you are starting a cleaning business, you do not want to make the same mistakes all the others do, by putting your energy on the business plan, equipment, buildings, employees to hire or to obtain financing. These are all expenses and if you start your business that way you are taking the wrong approach.
The key is to understand the barrier that prevents a successful cleaning business from taking off the ground and generate revenues quickly. It is to fail to understand where your customers will come from. The revenue of your business will come from a demand from people or from another business. The important consideration is your target market.
Starting your own cleaning business can be a very exciting and rewarding project. The demand for residential or commercial cleaning or maintenance services is in constant growth. It's almost an essential service for commercial companies and a need for households with above-average income.
In determining where you will sell your services you need to identify where the demand is and how you can call on people looking for your services. Do You know the banks in USA are currently foreclosing on 175,000 houses month-in, month-out? Do you realize they have to pay someone to clean and fix up all of these foreclosures? In June 2009, default notices, scheduled auctions and bank repossessions were reported on 360,149 U.S. properties, an increase of seven percent over the previous month and of 32% over the corresponding month of the previous year. According to RealtyTrac.com, there were 2,846,982 foreclosures in 2008 across the country and in 2009, it was even higher. So, is there a market for that service? Absolutely!!
Banking, mortgage and financial institutions nationwide have vested interests in homes, vehicles, commercial properties, businesses, recreational vehicles, boats or any other asset requiring financing and insurance. These companies must have updated and accurate information on the condition of their property and it is not cost effective for them to have "contractors" in every town in the country.
Starting a cleaning business catering to this market is a sure bet. If someone's home in your local area goes into foreclosure, the mortgage company or bank must ensure that their interest in the property is protected. What if the owner vacates the premises? What if someone breaks into the property? What if the property is left dirty and or damaged? Without a foreclosure cleanout and winterization, the financial institution can lose thousands of dollars on the property. This is where you come in!
These financial institutions need to sub-contract the work to independent local cleaning businesses and once you prove the quality of your work, your services will be in high demand, to say the least. Think about this, there are people all over the country getting paid $500, $600, $700 per foreclosure assignment. The assignment fees add up quickly and the best part is you have control over your work schedule.
